4-H Publications and Projects

Introducing . . .
National Directory of 4-H Materials

The name is pretty self-explanatory: 4-H has actually put together a database with links to resources that
educators, 4-H club leaders, youth, and volunteers need to conduct and participate in projects and programs throughout the nation. Although initially launched in April 2008, the site (www.4-hdirectory.org) is continually updated with new resources.

To get an idea of what you’ll be able to access and how the database is organized, think in terms of the following primary groupings:

  • Source (i.e., institution)
  • Subject (i.e., from Agriculture Science to Workforce Preparation)
  • T ype of material (i.e., individual project curriculum, professional development)
  • Type of media (i.e., book, DVD, poster)
  • Grade (i.e., K–adult)
  • Level (i.e., beginner–leader)
  • Delivery method (i.e., afterschool, camping, club)
  • Category (i.e., Citizenship, Healthy Living)

The directory provides descriptions of each document and how it fits into the 4-H system in terms of subject(s) covered, where it originated, and what it is used for.

For example, “Consumer Savvy 2: Consumer Wise,” provides individual project curriculum developed by the National 4-H Council for 6th–8th graders to learn how to make independent shopping decisions within an advertising-driven environment such as the Internet. And in “4-H 101: The Basics of Starting 4-H Clubs,” 4-H Military Partnerships offers a professional development project manual to familiarize adults with the principles of effective youth development in non-formal settings.

To see what you can find that matches your interests, check out the National Directory of 4-H Materials.
